San Antonio

Since the 1980s, San Antonio has been famous for all the wrong reasons and is where many young holiday makers and clubbers first experienced Ibiza. The West End of San Antonio has had a shameless reputation with its chains of Brit bars, discos, pubs and fast food joints and notorious holiday-rep guided bar crawls followed by alcohol fuelled street brawls. Today San Antonio represents a much improved environment following heavy investment by the local government to improve walkways, buildings and the areas surrounding the centre of town. Restrictions have been introduced to control Ibiza holiday makers’ behaviour in these areas which has led to a more refined atmosphere. One of the best known areas of San Antonio is the Sunset Strip, which has benefited from most of the local investment and is now known for its stylish chillout bars. The seafront promenade that now joins the bars and restaurants along the coastline has given the area a fresh lease of life. Sunsets are a tradition in Ibiza and sitting in one of the sunset bars drinking cocktails is a must while you are on the island!
You will find more to San Antonio than you might think. There is a lovely array of back street shops and the buildings are full of character. You can easily spend a couple of hours exploring the place. One interesting place to visit is the charming 14th century church which has a distinctive 17th century polygonal defense tower.
The nightlife in San Antonio is infamous with the West End being the hub of the party action. You can expect to see groups of stag and hen parties as well as friends on holiday. You tend to find many smaller clubs in San Antonio that are cheaper than the super clubs. Eden and Es Paradis are the two big clubs in San Antonio packing in thousands of clubbers every night over the peak summer season. Keep your ear to the ground for discount offers that often include a free drink. If you are heading out to one of the other clubs on the island you find the disco bus stop in the centre of town.
In terms of beaches, San Antonio has a small strip of beach that you will find on the main road leading to San Antonio Bay. This beach tends to get very crowded so you are better off heading a few kilometres out of town to the impressive cove beaches of Cala Salada, Cala Gracio and Cala Gracioneta, to the north. Here you will find crystal clear blue waters and all the usual beach amenities.
