In the far northwestern hills of Ibiza lies the sleepy village of Sant Miquel, where you will get a true slice of rural living. The area is sparsely populated and thickly forested, isolated high in the Els Amunts hills.

The village itself is situated a few kilometres south of the bay. The main street is lined with a mix of old cottages and apartment blocks and although not especially picturesque, the village has a good mix of locals and visitors during the summer months.

You can find some good hotels, villas and apartments in the area. Holidays in Sant Miquel tend to be more suited to families and people looking to get away from it all. You will find a few local bars and restaurants in the village as well as an Ibizan church located just off the plaza. Folk dancing displays are shown on the church patio every Thursday evening, all year round.

The beach at Sant Miquel Bay is fairly lively during the summer months and is clean with shallow waters, ideal for children swimming. The bay is enclosed by high cliffs and was once a small fishing port and smugglers stronghold. Tourism has some what spoilt the natural beauty of the bay with two imposing concrete hotel blocks now clearly visible in the eastern cliff.  The catering at the bay is almost exclusively for the tourist trade with an English pub and Wild West saloon bar. Sant Miquel makes a good base if you are planning to stay in the north of the island. Although there are a number of bus services, we would recommend hiring a car as you are likely to be restricted by times, frequency and destinations.
